The Big Pilot traces its lineage to the Beobachtungsuhren — the observer's watches issued to navigators in the 1940s. Large onion crown for gloved operation, cathedral hands coated in Super-LumiNova, Arabic numerals legible at arm's length in low visibility. The Cal. 51111 delivers 168 hours of power reserve — a genuine engineering statement, not a specification exercise. Every element on the dial earns its place. Smartlet adds data capability without changing the instrument.

Does Smartlet work with the IWC Big Pilot?+

Yes — for all 43mm and 46mm references. These use 21mm or 22mm lugs, natively supported. The 48mm IW510401 uses 26mm lugs — outside the native range.

Which IWC Big Pilot references are compatible?+

IW5002, IW5004, IW500901, IW501001, IW501012, IW503801 series at 22mm, and IW329301/IW329303 at 21mm are all compatible. Only the 48mm IW510401 at 26mm falls outside the native range.

Does Smartlet affect the Big Pilot 168-hour power reserve?+

No. Smartlet attaches via the spring-bar slots only. The Cal. 51111 movement and its power reserve mechanism are completely unaffected.
